JAMMU, Aug 27: DGP-cum-Commandant General HG/CD & UTDRF J&K VK Singh and Principal-cum-Dean Government Medical College Jammu inaugurated 24X7 mental health helpline ‘Sukoon’ at UTDRF Headquarters Gulshan Ground here today.
The prominent persons, who attended the programme included Dr Manu Arora, HoD Psychiatry Government Medical College Jammu, Vikas Gupta, Director Homeguards Jammu, Nisha Nathyal, CO UTDRF 2nd Battalion Jammu, GL Sharma, SSP, SP to Commandant General HG/CD & UTDRF J&K.
DGP in his address emphasises that the helpline (Toll Free Number 1800-180-7191) shall offer guidance to persons or their well wishers who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, panic attack, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), adjustment disorder, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, mental health emergency and pandemic induced psychologist stress.
“The helpline guides the caller to avail service of clinical psychologist, therapists, counsellors and psychiatrics and provide24X7 one to one support, free and confidential services to those experiencing mental health issues”, he added.
The staff posted with helpline has been imparted one week training by renowned mental health experts like Dr Muzaffar Khan and Dr Syed Aqeel, Consultant Psychiatrist. He urged the youth to avail helpline Sukoon’s assistance if needed.
CO SDRF 2nd Battalion Jammu Nisha Nathyal explained that team UTDRF has adopted two good practices during the pandemic. “First, 200 UTDRF and 40 NDRF personnel were trained for COVID care duties and then deployed in seven hospitals in J&K and the second is the helpline in both the provinces to offer support to persons facing health issues”, she added.
