JAMMU, Nov 7: As a part of series of his visits to different police offices after Darbar Move, the Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad inspected Government Railway Police (GRP) Headquarters here today and took comprehensive stock of GRP working in the State.
Mr. Prasad, accompanied by ADGP (Headquarters), S P Vaid, stressed upon the jawans and officers of GRP to upgrade their proficiency and rededicate themselves for public service. He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has to step forward on all fronts of policing and achieve heights of success. With the inception of railway services in the Valley, responsibilities of Jammu and Kashmir Police have been added and the cops have to come up to the expectations of the people by safeguarding their lives and public property.
The DGP said that security of railway tracks and safety of commuters was a great challenge for the force and jawans and officers of the organization have proved their mettle that they can take any responsibility at any time with fortitude. He said that the responsibilities would be more added in the future when railway service are extended to other parts of the State and additional manpower and infrastructure would be required for deployment on the tracks. The force would be prepared to take the challenge when called for, said the DGP.
During the inspection, Mr. Prasad discussed various issues with regard to the infrastructure, deployment of manpower and communication system. IGP Railways, Kamal Saini, briefed the DGP about the working of GRP and apprised him about the requirements and deficiency of manpower and accommodation for the cops deployed along the tracks.
The DGP assured that requirements projected would be considered and all possible assistance provided to enhance living and working facilities of the cops and to strengthen the deployment. He said that Police Headquarters would also project the requirements before the Government to upgrade the railway police in view of the enlarging scope of duties caused due to the new tracks spreading in other parts of the State.
During the meeting, Mr. Prasad also discussed the pace on the construction of the new Government Railway Police Headquarter at Channi. He was told that the construction is nearing completion and would suffice facilities for the officials.
The meeting was attended by IGP, Jammu Zone, Dilbag Singh, DIG, A. K. Atri, SO to IGP, Suresh Kumar, SSP Railways, Katra, A. K. Mahajan, SP Railways Jammu, Shiv Kumar, SDPO Railways Paramvir Singh, DySPs, Shakeel Ahmed, Abdul Ahad Pandit, Atul Sharma, Rajendar Kumar and Parshotam Kumar Mengi and other police officers.
