DG Rural Sanitation evaluates SBM-G implementation in Budgam district

BUDGAM, Feb 27: Director General (DG) Rural Sanitation, Jammu and Kashmir, Anoo Malhotra, today conducted a thorough assessment of Swachh Bharat Mission- Gramin (SBM-G) assets during a comprehensive visit to Budgam district.
A statement said that the primary objective of the visit was to ensure the effective implementation of sanitation facilities and timely interventions for enhanced results in various areas including door-to-door waste collection, user charge collection, engagement of Self Help Group members, establishment of Swachhta Banks, and transformation of legacy waste sites into revenue-generating hubs, with a strong emphasis on community involvement.
During her visit to Panchayat Choon, Malhotra meticulously inspected sanitation facilities, interacted with community members, and inspected critical infrastructure such as segregation sheds, community compost pits, and legacy waste sites.
She directed concerned officers to expedite the functionality of these facilities within a two-week timeframe, underlining the importance of cleanliness and hygiene for local residents.
In Panchayat Arigam, Khansaheb Block, Malhotra evaluated the functional status of assets and stressed the necessity of proper maintenance and utilization to maximize community benefits.
Addressing a large gathering at Panchayat Ghar Arigam, she emphasized the vital role of community participation in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, particularly in user charge collection and supporting Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns aimed at behavioral change.
Malhotra also urged officials to accelerate the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating (SGLR) process with hotels and resorts and identify suitable land for constructing a Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) in the district.
She advised consulting the Project Management Unit (PMU) expert team led by Sumit Mehta for technical guidance on SBM-G implementation.
Accompanying officials during the tour included Deputy Director, Rural Sanitation Kashmir, ACP Budgam, District Panchayat Officer Budgam, and BDOs.
