JAMMU, Sept 26: Dogra Front and Shiv Sena (DF&SS) held protest here today against inflated onion price, which is touching around Rs 80 per kilogram.
Carrying onions in their hands, the workers of DF&SS led by their president Ashok Gupta assembled near Rani Park here and held protest. The protestors raised slogans against the inflated onion prices.
While speaking, Gupta said that the inflated onion price has completely distorted the kitchen budget. Gupta said that the onion price has is going up since past 2 weeks, adding that presently the price of one kilogram onion is Rs 80, which is out of the reach of the common masses.
“Onion price has gradually increased in the past one month due to supply disruption from flood-hit onion-growing states like Maharashtra. Last week’s rainfall has further affected the supply, due to which onion price has been surged upto Rs 70 to Rs 80 per kg.
He stated that the Central Government has buffer stock of more than 56,000 tonnes of onion, which when released in the market can reduce the prices gradually.
Centre Government’s buffer stock of onion should be procured and made available to the common man so that the distorted kitchen budget can be brought back to the sense, he asserted.
Among others present were Geeta, Lal Singh, Ashu, Suresh, Bantu, Nikku, Abhishek, etc.
