SRINAGAR:
Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah and two other senior party leaders were taken into custody after Pakistani flags were allegedly hoisted during a Anantnag rally this afternoon.
Official sources said Mr Shah and other DFP leaders addressed a public meeting at Lal Chowk in Anantnag during which “pro-Pakistani slogans and its flags” were allegedly waived. However, when Mr Shah was on way back to Srinagar after addressing the meeting, police stopped his vehicle and took him into custody at Khanabal. Two more DFP leaders Bashir Ahmad and Moulana Moahmmad Abdullah Tari were arrested at Sangam by police, they said adding it was not immediately clear under what act they were detained.
A spokesman for the DFP confirmed the arrest of Mr Shah and other leaders by police. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has time and again warned stern action against those hoisting “Pak flags” in the Valley. He said these anti-national activities will not be tolerated.
A senior hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) leader Masarat Alam was arrested and later book under Public Safety Act (PSA) after “Pakistani flags” were hoisted and “pro-Pak slogans” were raised during a rally organised on April 15 to receive Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani at Hyderpora on this return from New Delhi.
