JAMMU, Feb 9: Devinder Choudhary was elected as the President of the Railway Station Taxi Operators Union as the election of the body was held today. Choudhary was polled 299 votes.
As per a statement, Kulbir Singh was elected as Vice-President with 283 votes polled, Sanjay Sharma as General Secretary (299 votes), and Harjinder Singh as Cashier (296 votes).
It said that 506 out of 509 (over 99%) votes were polled in the Union election.
Former Mayor and senior BJP leader Rajinder Sharma, who was Chief Guest on occasion, congratulated the winning team of the taxi operators and asked them to benefit from different welfare schemes launched by the Modi Government for the transporters and drivers.
“While the prices of diesel and petrol have been brought down considerably several schemes have also been launched by the Modi Government for the welfare of the transporters and drivers. The community should benefit from these schemes,” he said.
The Mayor also praised LG Manoj Sinha for taking several steps for the welfare of the transporters.
“The UT administration led by LG Manoj Sinha has also launched several initiatives to make the transporters live a dignified life in J&K,” stated Rajinder Sharma, the former Mayor.
