Develop Commercial Taxes Deptt on modern lines: CCI to Commissioner

JAMMU, Oct 9: Improve the working of Commercial Taxes Department and develop it on modern lines to give it a look of a corporate office where the businessmen are provided with all possible facilities.
This was stated by YV Sharma, President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), while interacting with Commissioner, Commercial Taxes Department, KH Rizvi, who was accompanied by other officers of department including Additional Commissioner, PI Khateeb, Commissioner, Vigilance and Inspection, Suhail Noor Shah, Deputy Commissioner, Lakhanpur, Ashish Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Appeals, Deputy Commissioner, Recovery and Deputy Commissioner, Audit.
Sharma raised various issues including seizure of goods at Lakhanpur in the name of under valuation, hefty entry tax on the goods purchased in other States after paying full VAT and other taxes, unwarranted sealing of shops and premises, unreasonable heavy penalties on various pretexts and so on.
He also requested the Commissioner Commercial Taxes to put an end to the out dated practice of seizure at Lakhanpur and decide the matter by a committee comprising of the representatives of the department and the businessmen at Jammu.
While speaking, Arun Gupta, secretary general, CCI, drew the attention of the Commercial Tax authorities towards the day to day problems being faced by the traders at Lakhanpur as well as Jammu due to discourteous and authoritative attitude of the officers.
Sham Lal Langer, senior vice president, CCI, urged the Commissioner Commercial Taxes Department to personally look into the matter that no businessman was harassed at any level.
Commissioner assured CCI delegation that he would look into all these points and redress the grievances in a suitable manner.
