“Desi” Brahmos

World’s fastest supersonic cruise missile is going 76 percent Desi or achieving localization within next six months taking a jump from 65 percent as on date. In other words, there will be 76 percent locally or indigenously manufactured components ready within six months for its making. This was stated recently by the Brahmos Aerospace Managing Director and CEO Sudhir Mishra. It is definitely a step forward towards attaining self sufficiency in the field of making and manufacturing of missiles even of the stature and strength of Brahmos.
Brahmos is the cruise missile with fastest speed which can be deployed on land, sea and underwater against different types of targets on land and sea . It is able to hit three times the speed of the sound which makes it world’s fastest cruise missile as on date. Our DRDO scientists have been working on Brahmos since the year 2000 and continuously bringing in it, more strength and sharper teeth.
It may be recalled in its march ahead, the Brahmos Aerospace flight tested the indigenously made seeker and now reports are that the booster too would be tested within two months and thus a target of 85 percent of indigenous manufacturing strength shall be achieved.
Larson and Toubro (L&T), as a leading industry partner of Brahmos Aerospace, has been closely involved in the design, development and production of the launchers and fire control systems for naval platforms as well as development and production of key aero structural sections of the formidable Brahmos weapon system.
