JAMMU, Oct 25: Advocate Purnima Sharma, Deputy Mayor chaired the Standing Committee meetings of “Housing for All” and “Skill Upgradation and Self Employment” in the meeting hall of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) along with expert and State consultant from J&K Housing Board.
Assistant Commissioner (R), Executive Engineer (C), Law Officer, Senior Town Planner and Executive Engineer (E) were also present in the meeting during which the Deputy Mayor took review of the ongoing “Housing for All” scheme.
Advocate Purnima Sharma discussed the agenda for the meeting. Many Councilors put forward various issues they were facing. Some demanded increase of the first installment from 25% to 30% while some pointed out that there are people who are so poor that they do not have any money for the initial construction of the house. Some councilors said that there are still incomplete houses under HFA scheme and till now only first installments of the HFA scheme have been provided.
The Deputy Mayor ensured the councilors that all the issues shall be taken up with the Government and separate amount of funds be allotted for HFA standing committee by JMC for helping the people in need.
In second meeting on Skill Upgradation and Self Employment, many issues were raised by the Councilors. The committee members discussed various ongoing skill development programs. The Deputy Mayor laid emphasis on the need for starting computer courses in various wards and to start various units for making cloth bags in order to provide a replacement for plastic bags. She also advised to start manufacturing units of “pattal and dunna” so that the use of plastic can be reduced by replacing it with an organic material.
Advocate Purnima Sharma advised the members of the J&K Housing Board and Skill Development to participate in the upcoming General House Meeting on November 6 and enlighten the Councilors regarding various schemes of the respective departments.
