One of the biggest waterfalls of North India known as Siyad Baba waterfall in Talwara area of Reasi is in a pathetic and deplorable condition due to human neglect and apathy. That, we cannot maintain and sustain such a wonderful natural asset and an attraction of tourist interest speaks about our scant concern to preserve natural boons and promote tourism. It is almost certain that most of the devotees visiting Jammu for pilgrimage of Shree Mata Vaishno Devi do visit the famous waterfall descending from a height of more than 100 metres.
Should the conservative estimate of visiting tourists to enjoy the majestic waterfall each year to be over one lakh be believed, it can be ascertained that how much would that be resulting in the economic and employment opportunities to the locals. While the need is to develop the area and maintain the waterfall and its surroundings to increase the footfall of the tourists, on the contrary nothing is being done. The area is pitching for earliest and sustained development and the waterfall under reference specially needs a renovation so that it regains its glory which it is losing at an alarming rate. Local administration and Tourism Department need to look into the problem at an early date.
