JAMMU, May 13: A delegation of senior dental surgeons today met Sunil Sharma, Minister for Power Development and appealed him to issue directions to Power Development Department to charge dental clinics at domestic rates.
The delegation comprised of Dr Gautam Sharma, president elect IDA, Dr Bhupinder Singh and Dr Aayush Sharma, members of J&K State Dental Council (JKSDC), Dr Rajiv Mengi (ex-president), Dr Vibha Raina and Dr Pankaj Bhagat, apprised the Minister that dental clinics in the J&K have been paying the electricity bill as per commercial rates.
They also informed the Minister that the dental clinics don’t come under the ambit of Shop and Establishment Act. “Dentists and dental clinics are governed by Dentists Act of 1948 and JK State Dental Council governs the activities of dental clinics in J&K. Even the High Courts of various states have already ruled that running a clinic is not a commercial activity”, they said.
The dentists requested the Minister to direct the PDD department to charge dental clinics at domestic rates instead of commercial tariff. Sunil Sharma assured the delegation that he will look into the matter and appropriate action will be initiated on the request of dental surgeons.
