Srinagar, Dec 29: Calling demonetization ‘biggest scam’ of Independent India, All India Congress Committee (AICC) today said the currency change has not benefited country and has ‘rendered 10 crore people unemployed’.
“Congress party calls it (demonetization) biggest scam of Independent India. It was not a scheme, it was a scam and it is India’s largest scam which has been established and it has not benefitted,” AICC spokesperson, Meem Afzal, told a press conference here.
The AICC spokesperson said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced 2 crore jobs but only 1.50 lakh jobs have been provided in two-and-a-half years. “However due to demonetization, more than 10 crore people have been rendered jobless in the country and they have no work,” he added.
The Congress spokesperson claimed that crores of rupees were deposited in the bank accounts of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) before demonetization. “Why was this money deposited? It clearly reflects that the BJP was aware that Prime Minister is going to do something and that is why this money was deposited,” he added.
The AICC spokesperson said Congress party wants to know the details of all the properties that were purchased by BJP during last one year and the same should be kept before the public. He also sought details of the bank transactions of more than 25 lakh of the month of September and demanded that all details should be made public.
The Congress party also demands compensation to the persons who lost their lives as a result of demonetization in the country, the AICC spokesperson added.
