Delegations call on Governor

SRINAGAR, Sept 3: Gulchain Singh Charak, President Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS), and Ashok Sharma, former MLC, called on Governor N.N. Vohra, at the Raj Bhavan today.
Mr. Charak briefed the Governor about the activities of the DSS and efforts being made by it for conservation of Duggar Pradesh heritage sites and restoration of the cultural heritage of the Mubarak Mandi Complex. The Governor urged Mr. Charak and DSS to take all possible steps for promoting communal harmony in the State.
Mr. Sharma apprised the Governor about various issues relating to the development and welfare of the people in his area and particularly focused on the need to ensure balanced development of the Rajouri and Poonch districts. He also agitated the need for this area being provided rail connectivity.
The Governor urged Mr. Sharma to objectively pursue the efficient implementation of all development programmes relating to his area.
A delegation of J&K Handicapped Association (JKHA) led by its President Abdul Rashid Bhat also called on Governor.
The delegation apprised the Governor about their demands relating to establishment of an Advisory Board and a Co-ordination Committee for dealing with the varied serious problems of the handicapped in the State; payment of family pension to disabled and handicapped people; provision of soft loans and concessional rates of interest on loans for the purchase of wheelchairs and handicap-cars; allotment of residential plots and shops; implementation of all legal provisions of  ”J&K Person with Disabilities Act 1998″, etc.
The delegation complained that no action has so far been taken by the Government on their various demands.
The Governor observed that he had already addressed the Chief Minister regarding the need for establishing focused attention to the various serious issues relating to the handicapped persons and the Government would be reminded in the matter.
