Couple among 3 killed in mishap

RAJOURI, Sept 3: Three persons including two young Medical employees hailing from Rajouri were killed when their car fell into a canal near Gurdaspur in Punjab early today.
Police sources said that the mishap took place when young couple and two others were going to Panchkula near Chandigarh from Rajouri in an Alto car. Sanjay Sharma (25), running a Medical shop at Dangri along with his wife-Chanda (23), a Medical employee posted at Kalakote hospital and Kulbhushan (26), left for Chandigarh from Rajouri at around 5 pm on Wednesday.
Sanjay also took along his friend Vijay Singh, also a Medical employee posted in Medical College Hospital Jammu, with him last night after reaching Jammu. They left for Chandigarh at around 11 pm from Jammu. From Pathankote, they had to take Jallandhar route but  mistakenly, they moved towards Gurdaspur. Near Sri Hargobindpur Sahib their car fell into a canal as the driver had a little nap during early hours. Kulbhushan broke the door and managed to swim out from the canal while other three including couple got trapped in the car and died.
Kulbhushan along with some locals reported the matter to Gurdaspur police. The police party during morning hours, removed the car from the canal and brought out the bodies. All the three bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital, Gurdaspur for postmortem. Sanjay and Chanda had married hardly three months back  and Sanjay was carrying her wife for medical check up at PGI, Chandigarh.
SSP Rajouri Dr Haseeb Mughal said that family members of the deceased were informed after Gurdaspur police flashed a message to PCR Rajouri. He said the bodies were being brought back to Rajouri and are expected to reach here around 9.30 pm. He said the couple hailed from Dangri while Vijay Singh is resident of Saranu village.
