KARGIL, Sept 25: A delegation of Shakar Chiktan Sub Division comprising of PRI members and led by the BDC Chairperson Shakar Chiktan called on the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil at Council Secretariat, here today.
The delegation among other issues took up with the CEC the demand for widening of the proposed Dachey-Shakar Road as a double lane road which would prove instrumental as an alternative road for the Kargil-Leh National Highway NH-1D in future.
The delegation said that during the winter and rainy season when the NH-1D at Fotula Pass and Youru Rong remains cut off for days together due to heavy snowfall and landslides, all the vehicular traffic towards Leh and vice versa are diverted through the Khangral-Sanjak Road.
The members of the delegation further said that due to narrowness of the Khangral-Sanjak Road, most of the time disruptions in movement of traffic occurs coupled with the apprehension of accidents during the winter season.
Keeping these facts in view, the delegation while highlighting the importance of the proposed Dachey-Shakar road as an alternative road to the NH-1D, urged the acting CEC for his intervention for taking necessary steps for its construction as a double lane road instead of a single lane road.
The CEC after giving a patient hearing to the delegation assured to consider the issue on priority and further taking it up with the concerned departments for necessary steps in this regard.
