JAMMU, May 17: Ashok Kumar, former MLA and senior Congress leader of Jammu and Kashmir has urged upon the Lieutenant Governor, J&K UT to take strong action against the concerned authorities, HCC and Gammon, besides other related companies who were responsible for the death of two innocent persons who had died on last Saturday in a landslide at Seri (Ramban) on National Highway due to man-made landslide disaster.
In a statement issued here, he said the death of innocent was the result of the negligence and unplanned cutting of the slopes of the mountains in the process of the construction of four lanes highway project especially, from Nashri tunnel to Banihal in Ramban district.
He said that relief of more than ten lakh each should be given to the families of dead persons who have lost their valuable lives in a landslide at Seri (Ramban) triggered by the impromptu cutting of the slopes in National Highway-44.
“In addition, free treatment and instant financial help should also be provided to the injured persons,” he said.
Ashok said that in the process of construction of four lane project, the stretch of National Highway from Nashri to Banihal has been badly damaged because of the negligence, unplanned survey and corrupt practices in the system from the last six years.
“It is a very serious concern as several innocent people have lost their lives in this man-made disaster in Ramban district,” Ashok said.
Kumar asserted that due to threat and vulnerability of this man-made disaster in the form of landslides there is a daily traffic menace in this region, even for the emergency services of ambulances filled with serious patients.
“In this crucial time, under COVID-19 pandemic there is the movement of several emergency vehicles, life saving ambulances (serious patients) and vehicle filled with quarantine people. These concerned people and patients are suffering badly because of the daily traffic disruption and jamming of roads triggered by dangerous landslides. The National Highway-44 is also a strategic link between the regions of Jammu and Kashmir which needs special attention,” Ashok added.
