SRINAGAR, Sept 8: Dearth of staff and lack of basic infrastructure in Government Primary School at Shaltang in Sheeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district is hampering the academics of students.
The school located merely seven kilometers from the main town of Baramulla has only two teachers with 50 students enrolled there and is without proper basic facilities like classrooms, playground, electricity and fencing.
The school has only two shabby classrooms and another room serves as an office as well as a classroom. The students of two classes have to sit in one room at a time due to lack of space and teaching staff.
As per teachers, they have to face various hardships due to the non-availability of staff and lack of proper facilities in the school. “We have to adjust two classes at a time in one room that creates confusion and students are also not able to learn anything properly. This school is the example of non-seriousness of the Government. How would two teachers be able to teach six classes at a time? This is very unfortunate on the part the Education Department,” they said
The teachers said that the present building of the school is one of the oldest in Baramulla district and a new building for the school was constructed a few years back but the building was not constructed properly. “The new building for the school was constructed over a Nallah and that too was not constructed properly,” they said.
Besides inadequate staff and lack of infrastructure, the teachers said that an open drain that flows in front and huge trees in the premises of the school are major hurdles for the students as well as for teachers.
When enquired about the Mid-day meals in the school, it was found that the school has no stock of food items available at present. “There is no stock of food available at present in the school. Even the Rice stock for this month was not provided,” the teachers informed.
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla, Abdul Ahad, feigned ignorance about the matter and assured that the problems will be soon solved.
