DDMA meet held at Jammu

JAMMU, Jan 15: District Development Commissioner Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu has asked the senior functionaries of different departments to chalk out effective strategies to combat the situation which arises during man made or natural disasters.
DDC said this while chairing District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting here today which was attended by ADC Jammu, K.S. Parihar besides senior officers from Revenue, Police, PHE, PDD, PWD, Fire Services, JMC, SRTC, SDRF, Forest, Social Welfare, Health, Irrigation and Flood Control and Civil Defence.
Various vital issues like District Disaster Management Plan, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of various departments/agencies, availability of resources, emergency operation centre, mock drills, mapping/contingency plan for disaster prone areas and other aspects related to disasters were also discussed comprehensively during the meeting.
DDC enjoined upon all the concerned agencies to work under a well-knit programme to combat disasters and stressed for constituting Village, Block, Sub-Division and Panchayat level Disaster Management Committees which acts as basic unit of District Disaster Management Authority.
He said that to achieve the desired results there is need to strengthen the basic infrastructure of all important departments with the required manpower which will consistently pursue the measures to reduce risks and preparedness for eventualities adding that it is important to put in place professionals in the areas of disaster management and create a response force of well trained volunteers of civil defence and NGOs to meet any eventuality.
The main focus of the meeting was to share Disaster Management Plan with all departments to ensure quick response to any eventuality besides taking stock of preparedness regarding rescue, relief and rehabilitation for disaster affected people.
