JAMMU, Jan 29: Teachers of Directorate of Distance Education, Department of Life Long Learning and Law School of the Jammu University can now take Ph D Scholars in their respective subjects.
Decision in this regard was taken at Jammu University Academic Council meeting, held on Tuesday evening, under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma.
The Academic Council decision has come as a great relief to the teachers in DDE, Life Long Learning Department and Law School, who were finding it difficult to get required score for next promotion as per new UGC guidelines.
The meeting was attended by Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Deans of various faculties, Heads of Teaching Departments, Conveners, Boards of Studies, College Principals and other officials.
The Academic Council, highest academic body of the University, also took several other decisions to further streamline the academics in this higher institute of learning. Threadbare discussion was held on each of the 29 agenda points and appropriate decisions taken thereof.
Amendments in the existing Internship Training in MBBS Course and Adoption of Resolutions under Section 16 of the Indian Nursing Council Act were also accepted in the Academic Council Meeting.
Discussions were also held with regard to the mode of conduct of JUET for admission to various academic programmes of the University/ Campuses/ Private Affiliated Colleges for the session 2015-16.
Besides several other issues regarding amendments in PhD Statutes were also taken up during the meeting. Various other matters of academic importance were also discussed and endorsed in the meeting, which also took stock of the action taken on the resolutions of the Academic Council held in October last year.
Prof M Y Shah, Dean, Applied Science & Technology, Prof. Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Dean Faculty of Management and Prof Syeda Rukaya, Dean Oriental Learning, from the University of Kashmir, Prof Deshbandhu, Director CDC, Prof Keshav Sharma, Controller of Examinations, Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to VC and Officers and staff of Academic Section also attended the meeting.
