KATHUA, Aug 3: District Development Commissioner Ramesh Kumar today conducted a day long tour of Hiranagar Sub Division to assess the damages caused by recent rains and flash floods. He also inspected the relief and restoration works.
During the tour, he visited Rajbagh, Chabbe Chak, Khanpur, Bandhore, Marheen and Manyari where damages have been reported due to incessant rains and flash floods.
The DDC issued on the spot instructions to restore the breach of protection bund on Ujj River near Rajbagh caused by floods during recent rains.
Executive Engineer Flood Control apprised the DDC that the restoration work of the protection bund has been started but rising water level was hampering the work.
He also inspected restoration work of roads and instructed the executing agency to improve the diversion on the OSK road for smooth plying of vehicles till the work of under-construction bridge was completed. He further stressed on immediate repair of Baniyari road, the portion of which has been washed away due to flood. He directed for laying crate along the channel as a permanent measure.
He also inspected ongoing temporary restoration work on Maniyari road and cause way of Chabbe Chak road. He directed the executing agency to remove the hurdles and pace up the work for timely completion.
Several deputations from Maniyari and Bobiya villages also met the DDC and demanded renovation of local roads. The DDC informed them that tender for 5 km Maniyari road has been approved and the work will start soon. He further directed the Xen, R&B to immediately complete the restoration work on Maniyari-Bobiya road.
The DDC further directed Xen, R&B to restore the stretch connecting OSK road to Marheen by solving the water logging problem caused due to continuous rains.
The BDO Marheen was asked to take up de-silting of drains passing through Marheen town to overcome the water logging problem.
