DDC member injured in mysterious firing

BhadErwah, June 22: A Dhok Defence Committee (DDC) member was injured on Sunday night in a mysterious firing incident, a police official said.
Gopal Nath (35), son of Amar Nath, a resident of village Duggi-Dandi, suffered injury in the right leg when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a dhok (mudhouse) in Jhompari Dal, 16 km from Bhaderwah town, around 11.30 pm on Sunday, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Aadil Rishu said.
The injured was shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bhaderwah and later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for advanced treatment.
He said Nath and another DDC member, Firoz Din, son of Alim Din were present inside the dhok (mudhouse) with their sheep when they reportedly came under fire.
Police have recovered a 12-bore gun from the area, Rishu said.
The officer said the preliminary investigation did not point towards involvement of terrorists.
However, a case under FIR Number 64/2020 under section 307 IPC and 3/25 and 7/25 Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Bhaderwah and further investigation into the firing incident is on.
