DCC Jammu gears up for voters’ enrolment, elections

JAMMU, Sept 30: District Congress Committee in a meeting at the Congress office on Friday to discussed various major issues including the upcoming elections for Mayor and Deputy Mayor JMC besides ongoing voters enrolment process.
The meeting was chaired by working president JKPCC Raman Bhalla and attended by former minister Yogesh Sawhney (Incharge District president Jammu- Urban). Block presidents, Ward presidents and other senior Congress leaders of the Jammu District (Urban) were present in the meeting. The leaders issued directions to the members on the ongoing enrollment process for voters, celebration of this year’s Gandhi Jayanti, the candidature of the Congress party for the upcoming JMC elections for Mayor and other issues.
During the meeting, Bhalla discussed some major points pertaining to some of the upcoming programs of the Congress party in the district. He directed the Ward presidents and Block heads to depute booth wise members in their respective areas for the ongoing enrollment of new voters. He discussed the special revision of electoral rolls in all parliamentary and assembly constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir which is currently happening and its implementation.
He further announced that in view of upcoming elections, observers will be deputed whose responsibilities will include coordinating with District officials such as the Tehsildar and ADC on behalf of the Congress party to manage electoral work and processes. This will ensure smooth functioning during the electoral process, he said.
Bhalla further spoke on the JMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections, stating that Congress party will decide the candidates for these posts after deliberations. He also said that the resignation of the BJP leaders from the positions should be seen as a victory as the failed to manage the operations and functions of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, and in doing so had also failed the public. The Congress is gearing up to use this opportunity to provide competent leadership and representation to the people.
I/C DCC Sawhney held a brief discussion on the upcoming party events. He stated at the meeting that the upcoming Gandhi Jayanti program on October 2 will be held at Satwari Chowk and directions were issued for the preparation. On October 8, newly appointed secretary AICC Manoj Yadav will be welcomed to the party headquarters.
Senior leaders Manmohan Singh, Dr Ramakant Khajuria, Amrit Bali, Chandra Shekhar Sharma, Jugal Kishore, HS Bagi, Rakesh Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
