DC lays foundation stone of Press Club Leh

LEH, Apr 8: Deputy Commissioner Leh Avny Lavasa laid foundation stone of Press Club Leh office complex near VIP Guest House, Skara Yogma, here today.
She was the chief guest on the occasion and ADDC, Leh Moses Kunzang was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, DC said that PCL at present is at the stage of infancy and assured support in whatever way possible from Administration to ensure a good foundation for future. She said that PCL can also contribute in spreading awareness about important Government schemes among public while focusing on constructive criticism, investigative journalism and ethical reporting.
DC said that media plays a crucial role in ensuring a good foundation for society by keeping a system of check and balance through their reporting mechanism. She urged upon the media people in Leh to uphold journalistic ethics and values and take their responsibility with a sense of professionalism.
She also asked them to encourage younger generation to pursue their career in the field of media. She also mentioned about the challenges faced by media fraternity in present time like social media, technological changes and stressed on doing relevant reporting for the benefit of general public. She appreciated the work of media fraternity in Leh for their overall performance so far.
ADDC, Moses Kunzang also expressed good wishes to PCL on the occasion. He said that PCL can prove a great sharing and learning opportunity not only for media concern people but for youth and others to have productive dialogue and training activities.
President PCL, Morup Stanzin spoke about the inception of PCL formed in September, 2014 with the aim to promote and strengthen free, fair and fearless journalism in the region while also safeguarding freedom of speech and expression as enshrined in the constitution of India.
General Secretary PCL Tsewang Rigzin also spoke on the occasion presenting a brief note about the members and membership criteria to join PCL. He informed about the PCL solar passive building office complex designed by AE Wangyal Tsering and to be constructed by Rigzin Namgial, Eco-Design Construction Firm.
District Officers, religious and social organization heads and famous personalities attended the function.
