JAMMU, Nov 13: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Shambu Nath, the then Vice Chairman J&K Cricket Association and Laxmi Cricket Club, DB today directed that play ground at Parade should not be used for any other purpose except sports activities.
“The use of the play ground during Diwali for sale of crackers is wholly unwarranted and is impermissible. If the playground is to be used for any purpose other than the one pertaining to sports, prior permission from this court shall be obtained”, DB comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan said.
After hearing Advocate Aparajita Jamwal appearing for the PIL whereas Advocate SS Nanda for the State, DB observed, “in view of comprehensive directions issued by this court in PIL No. 807/1998, which continue to be in operation, it is binding upon the respondents to ensure that play ground is not used for any other purpose except sport activities”.
“If there is any violation of the directions issued in PIL No. 807/1998, decided on 08.05.2002 and the directions issued today, the same shall be considered as Contempt of Court and appropriate proceedings shall be initiated”, the DB made it clear.
