Srinagar, Aug 19: High Court today directed the Centre to disclose the status of package sought by the State Government for relief and rehabilitation of last year’s flood victims.
The Division Bench of State High Court Chief Justice N P Vasanthakumar and Justice Hasnain Masoodi granted two weeks’ time to Centre for disclosing the status of Rs 44, 000 crore package sought by the State Government for the rehabilitation of last year’s flood victims.
The time has been sought with regard to the package by the Union Counsel, S A Makroo (ASGI) when court put a query to him about it.
Earlier, Joint Advisor National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Vinay Kajla, had informed the High Court that soon after receiving the State Government’s memorandum, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) visited the State for assessment of damages as per NDRF norms. “The report of IMCT is in the final stage and would be submitted shortly”, Kajla had informed the court.
NDMA with regard to the special package for flood victims had said that the proposal has already been sent to Ministry of Finance and the Planning Commission and it was under consideration.
However, since then, the court has not been informed about it and the Government of India had announced a package of Rs 1,667 crore without divulging anything about Rs 4, 4000 crore package.
