Slathia alleges discrepancies in rural development schemes

SAMBA, Aug 19: Senior State vice-president, National Conference and former Minister, Surjit Singh Slathia, today castigated the PDP-BJP Government for creating mess in rural development sector, saying the works are taken up in the areas of their supporters while the common people are being discriminated and ignored.
Addressing Sarpanches of Vijaypur, Ramgarh, Bari-Brahmana and Purmandal blocks of the Samba District, Slathia referred to the discrepancies in the schemes under MGNREGA, saying these are being taken up without consulting the elected representatives at the grass-roots level and the village community in general.
The Sarpanchs alleged that the Block agencies were selectively taking up the works to benefit BJP and PDP supporters, as a result of which a chaos like situation is obtaining in view of the waywardness of the rural development sector.
Slathia assured that he will highlight wrong-doings of the unscrupulous elements at the appropriate level and fight out the injustice tooth and nail. He charged the PDP-BJP alliance with betraying trust of the people and playing to galleries on all the issues.
He said development has suffered worse during the past nearly six months while the people were facing acute problems on account of power, drinking water, and health services. He further alleged that the road and education sectors have also suffered adversely under the present dispensation.
Slathia lamented over Governmental indifference towards the flood sufferers of Ramgarh area and called for constructing concrete bund on Devak and Basantar rivers for the safety of the local residents.
