Srinagar, Apr 18: The Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court today sought response from the Central as well as State Government regarding the plea taken in a PIL for prescribing minimum qualification for those who contest elections.

Thakur issued notice to Commissioner Secretary Law, Justice and
Parliamentary Affairs, Union Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and General Administration Department of the State and sought response within four weeks about the pleas taken in the PIL.
However, notice has been waived and accepted by the counsel representing union of India in open court.
The PIL has been filed by advocate Ahail Ahmad praying that a direction be issued to the Government to adopt necessary measures requiring a candidate contesting election to the Lok Sabha, State Legislature (both Assembly and Council) and panchayats to have minimum academic qualification.
