DB issues notices to Govt on PIL seeking facilities at GMC hospitals

JAMMU, Apr 22: In a PIL seeking direction to improve the existing infrastructural facilities of Government Medical College and Associated Hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir, a Division Bench of State High Court issued notices to the respondents.
The DB comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Sindhu Sharma, after hearing petitioner Sumit Nayyar in person, issued notice to Commissioner/Secretary Health & Medical Education, Director Health Services Jammu, Principal GMC Jammu and Medical Superintendents GMC & SMGS.
The notices were accepted by Adv Naveed Hussain vice Sr AAG HA Siddqui. The DB directed respondents to file counter affidavit within four weeks.
In the PIL, petitioner has sought direction to respondents to increase the bed-strength in the GMC Jammu and also SMGS Hospital, Shalamar Road, Jammu , commensurate to the inflow of patients in the said hospitals and also replace all the totally damaged existing toilet seats with English seats in the washrooms/bathrooms of these hospital. In the PIL, it has also been submitted that there are due shortages of medicines in the emergency drugs and the patients are forced to purchase the same from the market.
