JAMMU, July 25: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking better facilities in Government hospitals, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sanjay Gupta today granted three weeks time to AAG for filing fresh status report.
When the PIL came up for hearing, Advocate Parveen Kapahi appearing for the PIL submitted that the status report filed on behalf of the respondents shows deficiencies in the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
As per the status report, in order to remove the deficiencies and for providing better care to the patients several proposals have been submitted by the Principal & Dean of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, to the Administrative Department.
The proposal for construction of 100 bedded additional emergency block along with attendant waiting hall in Govt Medical College and Hospital, Jammu was submitted to the Administrative Department vide letter No.GMC-J/Plg/ 351/2016-17/1663-71 dated 24.01.2017; proposal for conversion of Col. Chopra Nursing Home into 100 bedded emergency wards from ground floor to 3rd floor at Govt. Medical College Hospital, Jammu was submitted vide office letter No.GMC-J/ Plg/351 /2016-17/1697-1705 dated 25.01.2017 and proposal for 300 Bedded Bone & Joint Hospital in Chest Disease Hospital was submitted vide letter No.AHJ/P&S/08/2017-18/522-25 dated 13.11.2017.
After hearing Advocate Parveen Kapahi appearing for the PIL whereas Senior AAG HA Siddqui appearing for the State, Division Bench observed, “it appears that no action has been taken on the proposals by the Administrative Department. It is further submitted that work on High Dependency Ward in place of Old Emergency Operation Theatre has already been commenced. However, when the work is to be completed has not stated in the status report”.
“It is further submitted that DPR for 300 beds for SMGS Hospital has been made by the Department of R&B, however, no particulars have been furnished what happened to the DPR. It is also submitted that further extension space is being identified for additional beds, however no particulars have been furnished as to whether further action has been taken”, the DB further observed and granted three weeks’ time for filing fresh status report.
