Dalai Lama stresses on amity, communal harmony

KARGIL, July 25: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was accorded warm reception here today during which he addressed a gathering urging people to maintain amity, brotherhood, peace and communal harmony.
“Basic human nature is compassion and kind-heartedness, and therefore every human has a potential to generate peace, happiness and brotherhood,” Dalai Lama said at Hussaini Park here.
The Buddhist monk said that every religious tradition gives the message of peace, love, compassion and brotherhood and the need is to revive and further strengthen these virtues in the modern times.
The Dalai Lama while expressing concern over rapid climatic changes due to global warming urged upon people to contribute their bit in minimizing pollution levels.
Emphasizing upon the need to empower the younger generation in terms of education, Dalai Lama said that the religious and political leaders, as well as parents and teachers, have a pivotal role to play in this regard.
He also underlined the need for the introduction of an education system with a healthy blend of modern and ancient Indian traditional knowledge.
Later, the Dalai Lama also interacted with various Muslim and Buddhist religious scholars at Chhutuk Hotel.
Earlier, Chairman, Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali, Chairman, Chief  Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil, Kachoo Ahmad Ali Khan, MLA Kargil Asgar Ali Karbalie, MLA Zanaskar Aga Syed BaqirRazvi, Executive Councilors, Advocate Mohammad Amir,  Syed Hassan Arman, Mohammad Hussain and StanzinSona, Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer LAHDC, Vikas Kundal, SSP Kargil T Gyalpo, representatives of various organizations including Anjuman Sahib Zaman, Suru Sankoo, Ahli Sunnatwal Jamat and Buddhist Association Kargil and other dignitaries received Dalai Lama at Kargil airport.
