DB grants 3 weeks time to State for filing status report

JAMMU, Aug 20: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Jammu Consumer Council, Harbhajan Singh and others seeking conservation, preservation and protection of water bodies after setting the same free from land grabbers, forest mafia, criminals and other miscreants, Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Tashi Rabstan today granted three weeks time to the State for filing status report.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Advocate G S Thakur appearing for the Forest Department submitted that he has filed the status report of Forest Department in Registry. Upon this, Division Bench directed Registry to tag the status report with the PIL.
Advocate Rajinder Jamwal stated that in terms of order dated June 6, 2013 official respondents have not filed any status report. Upon this, Division Bench directed Commissioner/ Secretary Forest and Environment to place on record a complete mechanism evolved by the State in complying with the directions dated June 6, 2013.
Deputy AG Mohd Salim Malik appearing vice AAG Siddiqui for the Revenue Department stated that he may be given some time to comply with the direction. Accordingly, Division Bench granted three weeks time for filing comprehensive status report.
