DB disposes of PIL seeking effective prosecution

JAMMU, Nov 19: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Rufi Khan and others seeking directions to the respondents to initiate  urgent steps for efficient investigation, effective prosecution of criminal trials particularly involving capital sentence to prevent crime and to convict the offenders by making punishment a real deterrent.
After hearing Advocate Rohit Kapoor appearing for the petitioner whereas Advocate Gagan Basotra appearing for the respondents, DB disposed of the petition with a direction to the respondents to take a decision with regard to the guidelines/norms for appointment of Public Prosecutors/Additional Public Prosecutors/Special Public Prosecutors bearing in mind the judgment of Supreme Court along-with the report of the Committee and the suggestions made by this Court.
“Finalize the norms within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of copy of this order and till such time no Public Prosecutors/Additional Public Prosecutors/Special Public Prosecutors shall be appointed”, the DB directed.
