POONCH, Jan 10: The inhabitants of Darana village near Mendhar in border district of Poonch are awaiting the construction of a bridge over local river and permanent road connectivity since independence.
The villagers and their school going children often risk their lives while crossing this river and specially when it is flooded or semi-flooded. The school going children many times remain stranded on the either side for hours during rainy season. During floods, this river forces these school going children to confine within their houses.
Locals of the area claimed that Ward No. 4 of Jogi Mohalla of Darana village remains cut off during rainy season. There is urgent need to construct a bridge and ensure road connectivity. Many times political leaders made false claims during elections but this demand of the public remained unheard.
Another local villager alleged that a little work on this bridge was started about ten years ago near elections, but since then the work has been abandoned due to the reason best known to the people at the helm of affairs. The people face lot of difficulties while shifting patients of the area to the hospital. He said the tall claims of the local leaders/ former legislators have totally exposed in their tall claims of massive development in Mendhar area. He said the villagers demand inquiry into the matter why the bridge work was stopped and what about the funds sanctioned for the same about 10 years ago. They have sought the intervention of the Governor and his Advisor K K Sharma in this connection.
