Srinagar, Jan 2: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said the names of masked youth who desecrated the historic Jamia Masjid last week will be revealed soon and damaging the sanctity of the Masjid won’t be tolerated.
Speaking after cleansing of the pulpit of the Jamia Masjid this evening, Mirwaiz said the process has been set in motion to unveil the faces of masked youth who desecrated the mosque pulpit.

He urged the youth to remain vigilant and defeat the nefarious designs of enemies. “The incident has led to shock, outrage and deep resentment among people and has deeply hurt their sentiments” he said.
Earlier, amid pro-Islam slogans, Mirwaiz took out a cloth and started the cleansing of Jamia Masjid pulpit while others joined him.
A meeting of Awami Action Committee headed by Mirwaiz was held at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal which discussed the desecration of the Masjid.  The meeting pledged that such incidents won’t be allowed to happen again. The participants said that any attempt aimed at damaging the sanctity or sacredness of the grand Masjid will not be tolerated.
Addressing the meeting, Mirwaiz said that old city has always been the epicenter of the Kashmir’s spiritual religious quest and its political ideology and the pulpit of Jamia Masjid has represented both these true to the core values of Islam and Tawheed (oneness of God) and to the political and social aspirations of its people.
He said the grand Masjid will continue to spread this message and represent people’s right while raising the voice against injustice and repression.  He said that the highly condemnable act that took place on 28th December has left entire Valley in a deep shock and hurt their sentiments. He said it’s time to isolate those elements who are trying to damage and violate the sanctity of the Masjid.
Mirwaiz said the coming Friday will be observed as Youme Taqadus (day of sanctity) in which heads of various religious and separatist political parties will jointly raise their voice against this act of attempted desecration of pulpit of Masjid and convey a message that nobody will be allowed to tamper with the centrality of Jamia Masjid and what it stands for.
