Dalai Lama inaugurates new facilities at AIIMS Centre

Dalai Lama after inaugurating new facilities at AIIMS at New Delhi.

NEW DELHI, Mar 10:  On the 46th foundation Day of  Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi, new facilities were added and formally inaugurated by Dalai Lama.
The newly established National Eye Bank and a modern, state of the art Ophthalmic ward (ward-III-B) were inaugurated in the presence of Prof  R V Azad, Chief, Dr R P Centre & Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta Medical Superintendent, Dr R P Centre.
Prof  R V Azad briefed  the Dalai Lama  that the newly renovated, air-conditioned  ward with all modern amenities was at par with any of the leading private hospitals in Delhi and providing care  at a fraction of cost.
Dalai Lama  was  taken on facility tour of the Community Ophthalmology Department and the Ocular Pathology lab where he inaugurated the Ocular Pathology museum showcasing some rare Ocular Pathology specimens.
Prof  R C Deka, Director, AIIMS was highly appreciative of the efforts being made by Prof  R  V Azad, Chief, Dr R P Centre and his team  in transforming the facilities for providing the latest modalities of care and  comforts to the patients.
In his address, Dalai Lama  stressed the importance of compassion  coupled with technology to hasten  patient’s healing process.  He stated that  focus must continue to remain firmly on research to find cure for  many untreated ocular problems which are incapacitating the masses due to visual impairments.
On the occasion, the Dalai Lama also gave away ORA oration awards and prizes for outstanding  achievements  by the residents and staff of the Centre.
