JAMMU, June 26: On the request of Consumer Welfare Association, Joint Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation carried out inspection of the Jammu Railway Station footpaths which have been encroached by vendors and rehri-wallas.
Members of Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) including Vikram Gour, president, B M Kohli general secretary and S C Sharma (Retd CE) accompanied the Joint Commissioner during inspection of the area where foot-paths have completely been encroached by vendors with dirt and filth all around the eateries offering absolutely unhygienic food items to the public.  Local Excise Department (ED) officials complained that side space of foot-path was being misused as open toilet and the whole front of the ED office (Main Railway Road) stinks like an open toilet.
The Joint Commissioner assured CWA that all illegal encroachers would be penalized and removed. However, he pointed out that some encroachers were on space that is under the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and therefore JDA alone could take action against the defaulters.
