Curfew relaxed, probe ordered

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, July 23: Curfew was relaxed for one hour this evening in Rajouri town following normalcy and an agreement reached between the two communities in presence of CAPD Minister Zulfikar Choudhary to maintain peace.
DIG Rajouri-Poonch range AK Atri told the Excelsior that curfew was relaxed in Rajouri town for first time in past three days for an hour at 5.30 pm. The relaxation period passed off peacefully, he added.
However, official sources said, at about 6.30 pm, some miscreants pelted two stones at Rajouri Bazaar but no one was injured. The miscreants escaped after stone pelting.
Curfew was re-imposed at 6.30 pm. CRPF and police personnel have been deployed in strength to check any untoward incident and maintain peace.
Sources said the CAPD Minister, who had been deputed by the Government to Rajouri, first held separate meetings with the two communities followed by joint meeting with them in which both sides called for maintenance of peace and tranquility.
Zulfikar ordered magisterial inquiry to be conducted by Additional DC Rajouri Mumtaz Choudhary to look into the role of miscreants, responsible for fomenting trouble in Rajouri quite often. He has been asked to submit report within 15 days.
Sources said both the communities stressed for peace in the town and maintenance of communal harmony.
Meanwhile, sources said, police have decided to release minor stone pelters after duly obtaining personal bonds from their parents that they wouldn’t indulge in stone pelting again. However, the FIR against the adult stone pelters, whose names have been mentioned (in the FIR), will stand.
