Cultural Academy organizes Multi-ethnic Folk Music, Dance Fest

KARGIL, May 14:  Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Kargil, today organized a one-day Multi-ethnic Folk Music and Dance Festival at PWD Rest House Bodh Kharboo, here today.
Eight cultural troupes representing Balti, Purgi, Dardi and Shina tribes numbering 160 artists from different villages of Kargil District mesmerized the dignitaries, other guests, district and block level officers, domestic and foreign tourists, school children and a mammoth gathering of the general public with their folk music and dance performances.
Kacho Ahmed Ali Khan, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, Kargil was the chief guest while as Ghulam Amir Kamran, Executive Councillor for Agriculture, was the guest of honor.
Folk songs reflecting the age old traditions of communal harmony, unity and brotherhood besides those depicting the diminishing cultural values in the light of the modern era of materialism were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Khan said that there is an urgent need of sustaining and preserving the glorious multiethnic folklore of Purig that comprises of folk tales based on the social and moral ethos, communal harmony and decency. He appreciated the Academy unit at Kargil for holding such festivals which prove ideal platforms to encourage the folk artists to ensure the preservation of the folklore and to make people aware of their roots thereby paving a way for cultural preservation and promotion.
Haji Ghulam Amir in his speech expressed hope that the Academy unit at Kargil will continue its endeavor for the conduct of its cultural promotion and preservation activities at the block headquarters of the district as well the far flung areas.
Deputy Secretary, Culture/ Special Officer for Culture-G1, Nazir Hussain and Cultural Officer, Kargil, Muhammad Ali Tak, also spoke on the occasion.
