Srinagar, Nov 17: The Central University of Kashmir (CUK) officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din today sought active participation of students’ community in restructuring the educational policy of the country.
“The Ministry for Human Resource Development (MHRD) has provided an opportunity to the students community by inviting suggestions and innovative ideas from them through its website, which after thorough evaluation and deliberations would be incorporated in restructuring the nation’s educational policy,” Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din said while addressing the students during a function organized by the varsity to celebrate the International Students’ Day at varsity’s Nowgam block.
The University has organized a group discussion on “Quality Education for All” and an essay competition on “Creating Employment Opportunities Through Higher Education” on the occasion.
CUK officiating Vice-Chancellor asked the students to come up with proposals for holding seminars, symposia and other student related activities.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar described the students as “engineers of change.” “The MHRD has decided to celebrate the day in order to empower the student community for acting as “engineers of change.”
Dean School of Education, Prof. N A Nadeem, gave a detailed power point presentation, “Towards Formulation of a New Policy on Education: Some suggestions.” He discussed various issues related to the education in India in general and Jammu and Kashmir in particular.
Students Welfare Officer, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka, said that as many as 16 nominations were received for group discussion while as 14 were received for essay competition.
In the group discussion, Vijay Hitaishi of Management Studies bagged the top slot while as Saba Maqbool and Showkat Ahmad Dar of Economics Department got the second and third prize. In the essay competition, Pervez Ahmad Dar from Education Department and Deeba Rukhsan shared the Ist prize while as Adil Amin Lone from Urdu department won the third prize. Prof. Mehraj-ud-Din distributed cash prizes among the winners.
