HAVANA, Jan 4 : Cuba has issued a scathing condemnation of what it described as a “cowardly” and “criminal” act of US military aggression against Venezuela, declaring its “absolute support and solidarity” with the Bolivarian Republic and demanding the immediate release of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores.
In a strongly worded statement on Saturday (local time), the Revolutionary Government of Cuba accused the United States of violating international law and the UN Charter, warning that the alleged military action and abduction of Venezuela’s constitutional president marked a dangerous escalation in Washington’s long-running campaign against Caracas.
“The Revolutionary Government strongly condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the military aggression carried out by the United States against Venezuela,” the statement said, while reaffirming Cuba’s “absolute support and solidarity with the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its government.”
Cuba said it fully supported the address delivered by Venezuela’s Executive Vice President Delcy Rodr?guez, particularly her demand that the US government provide “proof of life of the constitutional President, Nicolas Maduro Moros, and Comrade Cilia Flores.” Havana also endorsed what it called the determination of the Venezuelan government and people to “reject the aggression and defend their independence and sovereignty.”
Describing the US action as a “criminal act,” Cuba said it constituted a clear breach of international law and represented an escalation of a campaign of pressure and hostility that had intensified since September 2025, when Washington began what Havana termed an “aggressive naval deployment in the Caribbean Sea under false pretexts and unfounded accusations.”
“This cowardly US aggression constitutes a criminal act and a violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations,” the statement said.
The Cuban government demanded the “immediate release” of President Maduro and Cilia Flores, asserting that their detention amounted to a “military abduction” of the legitimate leader of a sovereign UN member state.
The statement went on to accuse the United States of pursuing “imperialist and fascist” objectives aimed at reviving hegemonic ambitions in Latin America under the Monroe Doctrine and securing control over Venezuela’s vast natural resources. It also alleged that the action was intended to intimidate and subjugate governments across Latin America and the Caribbean.
“The Government of the United States, President Donald Trump, and his Secretary of State? bear absolute responsibility for the deaths, as well as the human and material damage already caused and any that may result from this aggression,” Cuba statement said.
Recalling the 2014 Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, signed unanimously by regional governments in Havana, Cuba warned that this aspiration was now “under attack by the United States.”
“The international community cannot allow an aggression of this nature and gravity against a UN Member State to go unpunished,” the statement said, stressing that Venezuela “is a peaceful nation that has not attacked the United States or any other country.”
In an unusually stark declaration, the Cuban government said its solidarity with Venezuela was unconditional. “For that sister nation and its people, we are prepared to give, as we would for Cuba, even our own blood,” it said.
Calling the alleged US action “State terrorism,” Cuba urged governments, parliaments, social movements and people worldwide to condemn Washington’s actions and resist what it described as an attempt to impose “a new doctrine of domination by US imperialism,” particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean.
“All nations of the region must remain alert, as the threat hangs over all,” the statement warned, adding that Cuba’s resolve remained “firm and unwavering.”
The statement concluded with the revolutionary slogan: “Homeland or Death. We Shall Overcome!” (UNI)
