CRPF officer injured in grenade attack

Srinagar, Oct 18: An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured when militants hurled a grenade on security forces in bus stand Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
Militants lobbed a grenade towards the mobile bunker of CRPF in which one ASI of CRPF received splinter injuries. He was immediately rushed to nearby hospital for further treatment.
A police spokesman said that the incident took place at Sumo Stand Tral area of Awantipora where there was joint deployment of police and CRPF.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that one CRPF personnel identified as Asim Ali of 139 Battalion of CRPF was injured. “In this incident one civilian identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Sheikh also received minor injuries. Both the injured have been evacuated to nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries”, he said.
Police have registered a case and investigations are in progress. He said that the area was cordoned off to nab the militants responsible for the attack.
In the meantime, security forces this evening arrested two militant associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
An official said that two LeT over ground workers (OGWs) were apprehended by joint team of Army’s 52 RR, SOG and CRPF in Chandoosa area of Baramulla.
He said that one UBGL grenade, one hand grenade and 82 AK Rounds were recovered from their possession.
