Srinagar, Apr 28: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was injured after militants opened fire at him outside a Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district but security personnel managed to nab one of the assailants.
A CRPF spokesman said two militants appeared outside J&K Bank branch at Tehsil premises in Anantnag town today in the afternoon. “The Bank was closed as employees had gone to offer Friday prayers. These two militants enquired about the closure of bank. In the meantime, one of the two militants fired towards a CRPF jawan from his pistol which, however, hit his hand.
“Another CRPF jawan overpowered the assailant as his pistol fell down. But his associate managed to flee,” he said. The injured CRPF man was hit in hand and has been identified as Koshal Kumar of 20 Battalion.
Sources identified the nabbed militant as Muneeb Malla of Behibagh village of Frisal in Kulgam district.
“The militant is being interrogated,” he said, adding that it is being investigated whether the motive of militants was rifle snatching only or bank robbery as well.
