Criminal proceedings against Telecom companies

POONCH, Apr 4: District Magistrate, Poonch, Mohd Aijaz Asad today initiated criminal proceedings against the leading Telecom companies- BSNL, Airtel, Idea, Vodafone and Jio for the poor connectivity and worst kind of services being provided to the general public / customers in this sensitive border district.
Taking  serious cognizance of  poor telecom services  being provided in district Poonch, District Magistrate  initiated criminal proceedings under Section 133 of Criminal Procedure Code, against these leading Telecom companies.
While issuing orders,,  the District Magistrate pointed out that several representations have been received from general public/ customers, mentioning that there is lot of congestion in the network, especially in remote areas of this district and people are facing acute problem and remain disconnected at the time of various kinds of emergencies.
“Poonch being a border district, is confronted with multifarious challenges including cross border firing and natural calamities like flash-flood, landslides and road accidents. The communication network of the service providers like Airtel, Jio, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL is absolutely erratic and much below the desired standards.
Due to the poor connectivity, the District Administration is also facing difficulty in coordinating and finding it hard to stay in touch with field functionaries during emergency, law & order problems and in hour of crisis.  The situation becomes more appalling during accidents in communication shadow areas and it takes lot of time to launch the rescue operations, which at times might lead to loss of precious lives and property,” the order said.
“In view of above, the General Managers/Divisional Officers of the Telecom service providers namely- Airtel, Jio, Vodafone, Idea, BSNL in district Poonch are directed to restore/de-congest mobile communication services in whole of  the district within a period of  two weeks positively. These officers  are also directed to show cause before the DM in his office chamber on April 9, 2018 at  2:00 PM as to why Criminal Proceedings under Section 133 of Criminal Procedure Code should not be initiated against them,” the order further maintained.
