RAJOURI, Apr 3: Two policemen were placed under suspension after a criminal escaped from Police custody in Rajouri town here today.
The accused has been identified as Sunny, son of Ramesh Chander, resident of Rajouri. He had been arrested by police on January 30, 2017 and was wanted by police in a case FIR No. 71/ 2016, in connection with the theft of bikes in the area.
Sources said that accused had been lodged at Dangri Jail after his arrest on January 30. Today, he was brought to Rajouri for producing in court. The accused asked the cops accompanying him to go for natural call. The cops took him to nearby Police Post, Rajouri. From where he managed to slip away.
The police sounded alert and chased him but Sunny disappeared in the nearby busy market. The police was conducting raids at various places but he could not be traced till late this evening.
A senior police official said that two cops have been placed under suspension for their negligence. They have been attached to the DPL, Rajouri.
