CPI (M) activists take out protest rally against NFSA

JAMMU,  Mar 24: The activists of  CPI (M) today took out a protest rally and held demonstration outside the Divisional Commissioner’s office against the  shortcomings in the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the State.
Holding red-flags and placards in their hands, a large number of CPI (M) activists started protest march from Green Belt Park, Gandhinagar towards Divisional Commissioner’s  office protesting against the discrepancies in the National Food Security Act (NFSA).  The activists were raising slogan against the shortcomings in NFSA which has deprived large portion of the population from the coverage of the Act keeping the interests of the general public in mind.
While addressing the large gathering, regional secretary of the CPI (M)  Sham Prasad Kesar stressed on the need to streamline the list of beneficiaries and  urged the  Governor to include the deprived sections of the people for coverage under NFSA. He exhorted that the private members resolution moved by the CPI(M) MLA, MY Tarigami passed unanimously in  the State Legislative Assembly in August, 2014 in respect of provision of  35kgs of food grains per family @ Rs.2  per kg be implemented in the State.
Mr Kesar said that a section of population born after 2011 be also covered under the ACT.  He said there are huge discrepancies in the lists compiled by the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) and without streamlining its database, a huge section of the people will be rendered dispossessed of the CAPD services.
Om Prakash,  general secretary CITU demanded that wheat should be immediately replaced by the flour (Atta) as wheat is not acceptable to the people especially in Jammu city and major towns.
Kishore Kumar,  president, JK Kisan Tehreek, Banarasi  Dass, Sohan Lal, Sewa Ram, VK Vaid and ML Raina senior CPM leaders also addressed the protestors.
