COVID patients given unhygienic food

SRINAGAR, Aug 27: The attendants and the COVID-19 positive patients at GMC, Anantnag are being given unhygienic food as insects were found today in the food packets given to them.
The attendants told Excelsior that there is administrative inaction on part of the hospital administration that even after bringing the issue into their notice; nobody has really bothered about it.
“It is not like they are providing unhygienic food only to us or to the patients, even the staff stationed here are being provided with the same. What is ironical is that nobody is taking note of the issue,” they said.
The attendants displayed the food packets to the Excelsior where the insects were found and demanded that those responsible must be brought to book.
“They are simply playing with our lives-what else is this. Nobody cares; leave the food aside, go and have a look of washrooms, they appear as if they have not been cleaned since ages,” they said.
The attendants said that they were dismayed over the treatment they were being meted with and said that the higher-ups must take a note of it. They also showed filthy washrooms which they said are compelled to use despite not being in a condition to be used.
After the incident, the administration of the hospital said that it has started investigations in the matter and the individual responsible for providing the food has been called.
“We have started an investigation into the matter and the concerned has been called in and he has been warned of consequences if anything similar happened in the future,” Principal GMC, Anantnag Dr Showkat Jeelani told Excelsior.
He also said that the administration will be conducting the inspection of the food and the team will be tasked to check the food themselves first and then distribute the same in the patients as well as the attendants.
He also assured that the washrooms will be cleaned and that he will make sure that the patients, as well as the attendants, do not face any difficulties.
