JAMMU, May 29:- Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today inaugurated health awareness and medical check-up camp for safai karamcharies organized by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), here today.
This is the second medical check-up camp organized by the Jammu Municipal Corporation for its workers.
Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Kuldeep Khajuria, Deputy Director, Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Baldev Raj Sharma, Health Officer Jammu Municipality, Vinod Sharma, President Safai Karamchari Union, Rinku Gill, senior doctors and other senior officers of concerned departments were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham Lal Sharma stressed for taking preventive measures for JMC workers by holding regular medical checkups and administration of vaccines.
He also called for holding free medicare camps for slum areas, particularly during the summer season when there was every danger of outbreak of water borne diseases. He also called for educating people about health and hygiene.
The Minister asked the Municipal authorities to provide tool and Safety kits, masks etc to safai karamcharies to protect them from infections. He directed JMC Commissioner to issue necessary health cards to workers to cover them under Government of India, Insurance Scheme. This scheme is also implemented in the state for all categories of labourers and workers.
Later, the Minster met with several deputations at Summer Secretariat Jammu and listened to their demands.
The deputation from Samba district, led by Vice Chairman Schedule Caste Advisory Board, Swarn Lata, apprised the Minister about the problems of village Mandal, Su-Khad and Parmandal area which were mainly related to augmentation of water supply. She also demanded early start of work on the sanctioned dug-wells and hand pumps in these areas.
Another deputation from All Jammu Hotelier and Lodges Association, led by its President Inderjeet Khajuria, presented a charter of demands to the Minister which included speeding up of the work on Artificial lake being developed on River Tawi, removal of encroachment on the banks of river Tawi, twenty four hour water supply in metered areas and early completion of drainage line laying work being executed by ERA and other construction agencies in Jammu city.
A deputation from Channi Himmat, led by Ex-Corporator, Asha Rani, demanded adequate supply of drinking water to the area, up-gradation of power and roads etc.
The deputation from Samba Budhi Charyari, Akhnoor, Bishnah, Suriansar, besides that of Medical Employees federation also met the Minister and projected their demands.
The Minister gave instructions to the concerned departments and assured the deputationists that their genuine demands will be redressed on priority.
