Counter-insurgent turned cop killed

Srinagar, July 22: A counter insurgent turned police man was killed as militants fired at him in Furrah area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district this evening.
Militants fired at the counter-insurgent turned policeman Abdul Rashid Dar this evening outside his house leaving him critically injured. “Dar was shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Kulgam where he succumbed,” he said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that Dar died in the attack. He said that he was posted in Srinagar and had gone to meet someone in his village.
He said massive hunt has been launched to track down the killers.
Meanwhile, police today arrested three Over Ground Workers of militants in Chadoora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Police said that acting on a specific input Budgam police, 50 Rashtriya Rifles and 29 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force arrested three OGWs of militants from Chadoora area during naka checking.
They have been identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Ismail, resident of Pulwama, Ajaz Wani son of Rehman Wani, resident of Chitroo Dangerpora and Aqib Ganaie son of Zahoor Ahmad, resident of Khansahib.
Security forces recovered 40 rounds of AK 47 ammunition, 2 detonators and 3 JeM matrix sheets.
Police said that the group was involved in providing logistic support and shelter to active militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad.
A case (FIR no 120/2020 under relevant Sections of UAPA) has been registered in Police Station Chadoora and investigation taken up.
