Termites are known to be silent “destroyers” because their ”actions” are all in a sort of secrecy and their characteristics being of infestation, proper termite ”treatment” is, therefore, required to get rid of them. Prime Minister recently comparing corruption in the country with termites which ”hollows” the country, felt that there was thus the need to ”get rid of them” for which ”we have to work together”. We need not go in the details of the worst affliction known as corruption in respect of its extent and long operation with virtual impunity in the country as that is known through the data in general prepared by various agencies which rank countries as per the rate of the prevalence of this malady but unless the ”givers” or the sponsors of corruption modify and reform their mindset, the ”receivers” will not stop getting it. Not only does corruption undermine efficiency, merit, eligibility, propriety and morality but it results in defeating the objectives and ambitions of various schemes and policies of the Government otherwise aimed at bringing about development and progress in the country.
If the designated agencies keep track of amassing wealth and raising assets disproportionate to known sources of income and later are initiating action against the suspected corrupt, as provided for under the law, usually lot of criticism is being done on manufactured premise. Public perception, therefore, matters a lot whereby zero tolerance to breeding of corruption or corrupt practices must not only be explicit but practically visible too. On the occasion of monthly ”Mann Ki Baat”, the PM shared with the countrymen the dream project in Ladakh which may not be far from being realised practically under which the UT was going to be blessed with a magnificent Open Synthetic Track and Astro Turf Football Stadium where 30000 spectators can sit at a time. That would definitely open new vistas and avenues for the youth in particular. He, therefore, exhorted all to work in unison to rid the nation of the ”termite” of corruption as soon as possible.
