SRINAGAR, Dec 27: The Core Group Kashmir of various security agencies today reviewed the security situation including surge in militancy and chalked out a strategy to deal with it in changed circumstances where security forces face hostile stone pelting mobs during operations.
The Core Group Kashmir meeting was co-chaired by General Officer Commanding (GOC) Chinar Corps, Lt Gen J S Sandhu and Director General of Police (DGP) K Rajendra Kumar at Badami Bagh Cantonment here today.
The meeting was attended by top officials of various security agencies including CPRF, BSF, Intelligence Bureau and Intelligence wings of the Police besides top officials of civil administration. The meeting reviewed overall security scenario in Kashmir to draw security strategy for the winters.
The meeting discussed the law and order situation which it said is improving but expressed concern over the surging militancy in Kashmir due to increased infiltration and recruitments this year.
The meeting discussed the challenge thrown by the rise in infiltration this year which, according to official figures, is 116 up to November this year. The officers stressed for strengthening of the counter-infiltration grid along the LoC so that the infiltration is stopped and those who manage to infiltrate are tackled in the forests areas only.
The meeting expressed concern over the mob attacks on security forces during operations against the militants and stressed for restraint to avoid collateral damage. The meeting stressed for intelligence based surgical operations so that collateral damage is avoided.
A Defence spokesman said that the Corps Commander complimented the members and the officials of the Core Group for the high level of synergy amongst all the agencies in addressing the security concerns of Kashmir.
“The DGP expressed similar sentiments and elaborated on the key security initiatives that have been put into place to manage the law and order situation in the Valley”, the Defence spokesman said.
“The members deliberated upon various issues to evolve a comprehensive strategy to respond to the various external and internal security challenges. Plans for maintaining a robust counter infiltration and counter terrorism grid were discussed,” the Defence spokesman added.
